Help without teaching it wrong.

The hardest part of helping at home is not the maths. It is not knowing what the exam actually asks for, or being taught a different method yourself twenty years ago.

Start with the topic page, free, no account

Every topic has a page you can read without signing up. It sets out what the specification requires, where students most often go wrong, and the way the question tends to be worded in the exam. Reading one before you sit down together is often the whole job.

What parents tend to use

  • The worksheet and its mark scheme. Practice questions with the marks shown, so you can see where a method earns credit and where it does not.
  • Retrieval quizzes. Short, spaced, and designed around how memory actually works rather than re-reading notes.
  • Marking an answer. Photograph what they have written and see it marked against the scheme, with the reason. It settles the "but I got the right answer" conversation.

Being straight with you

Speca is built for teachers, and the slides are made for a classroom with a board. As a parent you will mostly want the worksheets, the mark schemes and the topic pages. We would rather say that than sell you a subscription for something you will not open.

There is also no student login and nothing for your child to sign up to. The account is yours.

Which exams it covers

AQA GCSE Maths, Combined Science, Geography and English Language, Key Stage 2 SATs maths for Year 6, and CAPS Senior Phase maths for South Africa. If your child sits a different board, check the topic pages first: the content is written to a specific specification and we would rather you saw that before paying.
