Terms of Service
Last updated: 17 September 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Speca (the "Service").
Speca is provided by Speca Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17432536), registered office 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ ("we", "us").
By creating an account, joining the waitlist, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
1. What Speca is
Speca provides AI-assisted lesson resources for secondary school teachers, including slides, worksheets, mark schemes and other classroom materials, written to align with published exam board specifications.
Speca is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR, WJEC/Eduqas, or any other exam board. All content is originally authored and independently aligned to publicly published specifications, not reproduced or adapted from board-owned material.
The Service currently includes:
- Ready-made resource bundles — a library of resources written in advance by Speca and downloadable as PowerPoint and Word files.
- Building a resource from a topic — you pick a topic from the library and Speca assembles a version tailored to your choices, using only that topic's existing reviewed content.
- Making a resource beyond the library — you pick a topic that has no ready-made bundle yet, and Speca writes a new resource from its own in-house topic taxonomy.
- Adapting your own slides — you upload a PowerPoint file you already have, and Speca returns an SEN-adapted version of it.
- AI-assisted marking — you paste a student's typed answer to a question from Speca's own library, and Speca marks it against that question's existing mark scheme.
- Email delivery — Speca can email a finished resource to the email address on your own account, as an attachment.
Sections 7 to 10 explain what you can and can't rely on from each of these.
2. Who can use Speca
Speca is intended for teachers and education professionals. You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to create an account.
Speca is not a product for children and is not designed, marketed or made available to them. Speca does not knowingly collect any information from, or about, school pupils. See section 10 for what this means when you're using the marking feature on a student's work.
3. Accounts
You create an account with an email address and a password. You're responsible for keeping your login details secure and for all activity under your account. Let us know immediately at hello@speca.co.uk if you suspect unauthorised access.
Accounts are for one person. Don't share your login with colleagues — each teacher needs their own account.
4. Free and Pro plans
Speca has a Free plan and a paid Pro plan.
How the free allowances work
Each of the following is metered separately, and each has its own allowance:
| What you're doing | Free allowance |
|---|---|
| Downloading a ready-made bundle file | 3 per rolling 30 days |
| Building a resource from a library topic | 3 per rolling 30 days |
| Making a resource beyond the library | 3 per rolling 30 days |
| Adapting your own slides | 3 per rolling 30 days |
| AI-assisted marking | 3 per rolling 30 days |
Two things worth being clear about, because they're easy to assume otherwise:
- These are rolling allowances, not calendar months. Nothing resets on the 1st. Each time you use one of the features, we count how many times you've used that same feature in the previous 30 days. An action stops counting against you once it is more than 30 days old.
- The allowances are independent. Using up your three downloads doesn't affect your three markings.
If an action fails part-way through — for example the file can't be produced — we release the allowance back to you rather than charging you for a failed attempt.
Pro
Pro removes those monthly allowances. Pricing is £8.99 per month or £89 per year. The price you'll pay, the billing period and any applicable VAT are shown to you on the checkout page before you pay, and that page is what governs — not this document.
Fair use, for all plans
Speca's AI features cost real money to run for every request. So, on every plan including Pro, there is a short minimum gap between AI-backed requests — a few seconds. If you go faster than that, you'll be asked to wait a moment and try again. This does not apply to downloading ready-made bundles.
"Unlimited" on Pro means we don't cap how many resources you make in a month. It does not mean automated, bulk or scripted use. We may contact you, and if necessary limit or suspend the account, where usage is clearly not one teacher doing their own teaching work.
Paying, renewing and cancelling
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel.
- You can cancel at any time from your account page. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep Pro access until the end of the period you've already paid for.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card details.
- Your legal cancellation right: as a consumer buying online you normally have 14 days to change your mind. Because Speca gives you immediate access to digital content, by subscribing you ask us to start the Service straight away, and you acknowledge that you lose the 14-day cancellation right once you have used any Pro feature.
- If you are buying on behalf of a school or other organisation, you are not a consumer and the 14-day right does not apply; your organisation's purchasing terms are a matter for it.
- Beyond that, refunds are at our discretion. If something has gone genuinely wrong, email us and we'll sort it out.
5. Waitlist and early access
Joining the waitlist registers your interest in early access. It does not guarantee access by any particular date, or at all. You can unsubscribe at any time.
6. Changes to plans and features
We may change what's included on each plan, and we may change the free allowances. If a change materially reduces what you get on a plan you're paying for, we'll tell you before it takes effect and you'll be able to cancel.
7. AI-produced content — what you can and can't rely on
This is the most important section in these Terms. Please read it.
Some Speca content is written in advance and checked by a person. Some is produced by AI at the moment you ask for it, and is not checked by anyone before you see it. Speca always tells you which is which, on the screen and on the file itself.
Where the file says "AI-generated — not human-reviewed by Speca", that is literally true. It means the resource was drafted by AI from Speca's in-house topic taxonomy and has not been through the review process used for the ready-made bundles. It may contain errors of fact, arithmetic, level or emphasis.
In every case, and on every tier — including reviewed content — you are the teacher and the professional judgement is yours. As with any teaching resource, you should read materials before using them with your class. Do not put a Speca resource in front of students, or into an assessment, without reading it first.
We don't guarantee that any resource:
- is free of errors,
- covers any particular part of a specification completely, or
- is appropriate for your specific class, tier or students.
Review status is honest, not marketing. Where Speca describes a resource as reviewed, that reflects an actual recorded review of that specific file. Where it doesn't say that, it hasn't been reviewed. We won't imply otherwise.
8. AI-assisted marking is not a final grade
If you use Speca to mark a student's answer:
- The result is a starting point for your own judgement, not a substitute for it — especially for borderline marks.
- Always review it before recording an official grade, reporting a mark to a student or parent, or using it in any decision about a student.
- Speca marks strictly against its own mark scheme for its own question. It is not an exam board mark, it is not moderated, and it predicts nothing about any real qualification.
You accept that you are solely responsible for any mark, grade, report or decision you record, whether or not Speca's output informed it.
9. Adapting your own slides
When you upload a PowerPoint file to be adapted:
- You confirm you have the right to share that file's content with us for this purpose. You are asked to confirm this before the upload runs, and we rely on that confirmation. Don't upload material that is someone else's copyright unless you're permitted to.
- We read the text out of your file, use it to produce an adapted version, and return that version to you. We do not keep your uploaded file. See the Privacy Policy for detail.
- There are practical limits: files up to 10MB and decks up to 40 slides.
- Speca adapts how your content is delivered — chunking, scaffolding, adding diagrams. It is instructed not to invent new facts or change the method your slides teach. It is still AI, so section 7 applies in full: check the adapted deck before you teach from it.
10. Student work and pupil data
Speca is a tool for teachers. It is not designed to hold information about pupils, and you should not put pupil personal data into it.
Specifically, when using AI-assisted marking:
- Submit the answer only. Do not include the student's name, initials, admission number, date of birth, or anything else that identifies them.
- We do not store the answer text you submit. It is sent for marking and the result is returned to you; we keep only a record that a marking took place (which topic, which question type, when) so we can operate your allowance.
- You remain the data controller for your students' information under UK data protection law, and you are responsible for complying with your school's own policies on student work and AI tools. If your school requires approval before using AI tools on student work, get it first.
The same applies to uploads: don't upload a deck containing pupil names or personal data.
11. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Resell, redistribute, or publish Speca content commercially outside your own teaching use, or share your account access with others.
- Attempt to scrape, reverse-engineer, or extract the underlying taxonomy or generation systems.
- Attempt to access, or attempt to extract, any other user's account, data or usage history, or probe, test or circumvent the Service's security or its usage limits.
- Use Speca's outputs to build, train, or populate a competing product, dataset, content library or model — including bulk-generating resources in order to assemble a rival library, whether or not it is sold.
- Use automated means (scripts, bots, scraping tools) to use the Service, or use it at a volume or rate inconsistent with one teacher's own classroom work.
- Submit content you don't have the right to submit, or content that is unlawful, harmful, abusive, or that infringes anyone else's rights.
- Remove, obscure or alter any disclaimer that Speca has placed on a resource — in particular the "AI-generated — not human-reviewed" notice — before passing that resource to anyone else.
12. Intellectual property
Ours. Speca, its software, its in-house topic taxonomy, its templates, its brand, and the resources in its library are owned by us (or our licensors). Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of any of it to you.
Yours. Any file you upload — for example a PowerPoint deck you want adapted — stays yours. We claim no ownership of it. You give us a limited, non-exclusive licence to process that file for the sole purpose of producing your adapted version and returning it to you, and for no other purpose. We don't use your uploads to train models, to build our library, or to improve the Service for anyone else, and we don't keep them.
What you make with Speca. Resources you download or receive from Speca — whether from the library, built from a topic, generated live, or adapted from your own deck — may be used, adapted and shared for your own teaching purposes (for example, within your school or department). You may not resell or republish them commercially as your own product, and you may not use them as described in section 11.
Feedback. If you send us suggestions, we can use them without obligation to you.
13. No guarantee of exam outcomes
Speca materials are provided as teaching aids. We don't guarantee any particular exam result, grade, or outcome for any student. As with any teaching resource, you should review materials before using them with your class.
14. Availability, disclaimers and liability
The Service is provided "as is". We don't promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we may need to take it down for maintenance or because a third-party provider (for example our hosting, payment or AI providers) is unavailable.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for indirect or consequential losses, and for loss of profit, revenue, data or goodwill.
Our total liability to you for all claims arising out of or in connection with the Service in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in that period, and (b) £100.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that can't legally be excluded, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. If you are a consumer, nothing here affects your statutory rights.
15. Third parties we rely on
Speca runs on services provided by other companies — including hosting, our database and sign-in provider, our payment provider, our email provider, and the AI provider whose models produce the content. The Privacy Policy names them and explains what each one receives. Their availability and their own terms affect the Service, and we are not responsible for their acts or omissions beyond what the law requires of us.
16. Changes to the Service or these Terms
We may update these Terms or change the Service from time to time. We'll do our best to give notice of material changes, and we'll always update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Speca after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
17. Termination
You may stop using Speca at any time, and you can ask us to delete your account (see the Privacy Policy). We may suspend or close accounts that breach these Terms.
If we close your account for a breach, we may do so without a refund. If we withdraw the Service entirely, we'll refund the unused part of any subscription you've paid for.
18. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
