Know where they are. Know what to do next.
Your child works in the Speca workbook, on paper. You photograph a page and Speca marks it against the mark scheme. Once a week you get one email: what they did, where marks are being lost, and exactly what to do next.
How it would work
- A quick check first. One question from each topic tells you where to start.
- One short task a week. Usually twenty minutes, with the page number.
- Photograph the page. Speca marks every answer and the method, against the same mark scheme printed in the book.
- One email. Progress by topic, where the marks went, and what to do next.
What the weekly email looks like
Sam's week: percentagesAn example
This week Sam did questions 5 to 8 on page 21 and scored 6 out of 8.
Going well: increasing and decreasing by a percentage, and simple interest. All right, with the method shown.
Where the marks went: question 8, the jacket that costs £48 after a 20% discount. Sam added 20% of £48 and got £57.60. The £48 is only 80% of the original price, so the original is £48 ÷ 0.8 = £60. There is a worked example at speca.co.uk/m4 called "Find the original price".
Next week: questions 9 to 11 on page 21, then topic 5, Pythagoras' theorem, from page 24.
What it deliberately does not do
- No account for your child, no login and nothing on their screen. The work is on paper and the account is yours.
- No AI for your child to chat to. It marks the page; it does not talk to them.
- No photos kept. A page is marked and then deleted; only the marks are kept.
The price
When it opens, Speca at home will be part of Speca Pro: £8.99 a month or £89 a year, cancel any time. It starts with GCSE Maths (AQA), the subject a teacher has already checked every question in.
